His career began in 1994, leading to early success as the "Best New Comedian" at the 1995 Glastonbury Festival and winner of the 1998 "Mercury Comedian of the Year" prize. He is best known for his long-running tenure as a resident comic songwriter on BBC Radio 4’s The Now Show from 1999 to 2016. He continues to tour extensively with recent productions including The Point and The Lehrer Effect..
